Melbourne Australia, 17-19 August 2023 – Cyberbit, the world’s only hyper-realistic cyber skills development platform, and WorldSkills Australia, a national, not-for-profit organization that provides young Australians an opportunity to develop skills, compete in their chosen trade or profession, and fast track their skill and career development, have joined forces to run the WorldSkills Australia Cybersecurity Competition in Melbourne, Australia. The competition will run for three days and include challenges in cyber labs and live-fire cyber-attack simulations in a hyper-realistic environment. One team may have the opportunity to go on to compete in next year’s WorldSkills international competition in Lyon, France in September 9-15, 2024.
The Cyberbit and WorldSkills Australia collaboration is open to cybersecurity students, apprentices, and young professionals from all over Australia with the joint goals of raising awareness of the field of cybersecurity, encouraging interest in cybersecurity careers, improving cybersecurity skill development pathways, and helping to solve the cybersecurity skills gap.
Over the course of three days, six blue teams (a defensive security team) and six red teams (an offensive security team) will take part in a series of intense challenges covering a variety of topics including malware analysis, Windows & Linux OS skills, knowledge of commercial security tools and others. Red and blue team exercises provide a critical solution for testing and building strong defenses and staying up to date with evolving cyber threats.
During the competition, competitors will participate in both individual challenges in Cyberbit’s hands-on cyber labs and team challenges in real-world, live-fire cyber-attack scenarios. The live-fire exercises are powered by Cyberbit’s cyber range, which immerses teams in a virtual security operations center (SOC) that includes enterprise-grade networks and commercial security tools and simulates a real-world cyber-attack just like what the participants will use and encounter on the job. Teams are required to detect and respond to the live attack and their performance is automatically calculated by the Cyberbit platform.

Winning scores are based on individual performance and responses to quizzes in cyber labs and a team score in the live-fire exercises that measure’s the team’s ability to detect the correct artifacts during incident investigation, complete incident response tasks, and respond to questions at the end of the exercise.
